If astarian just kill the master, he is still a spawn. But just ascended = free from the master will and can be in sunlight but not a vampire lord. If you are not sure there’s a second playthrough or not, do not ascend. If you have seen non-ascending Astarion and wanted to experience some unhealthy twisted relationship, ascend. Unascended is way more in character than ascended. And not sure where you get that Astarion is NOT a good person. He IS a good person, just a victim of horrible abuse for 200 years and major PTSD. Ascended is the only way to play a custom vampire without mods, so... if he dominates the world, the blame is on Larian!
