Noticed yesterday that the jeep was running really hot, hot enough actually to make the idiot chime tell me to look at the gauges. When I started actually paying close attention to it the needle was staying at the third little hash mark on the gauge (so technical right). The pentastar does run on the hot side for better efficiency. Also keep in mind that the coolant temperature sensor is located at the left (driver) side engine head. Coolant is pushed by the pump through the engine block (around the cylinders) then through the heads and on to the oil heat exchanger, heater core and radiator via the thermostat.

Test the O2 sensors, they can get old and slow to react. Typical O2 sensor service life is about 100,000-150,000 miles. Replace the coolant temperature sensor on the thermostat housing.The temp gauge on your dash is just an implied temp, not an actual reading. Your EVIC should show actual coolant temps. But to answer your question; yes, the 3.6 runs hot. Apparently that is where it is most efficient and happy.Sinks—and running water in general—are wonderful things.
