For the springfield lineup it's great but as for the overall market it's just and striker fired gun. It's got the same fcu concept as the 320, comes optics cut, comes with 2 20rd mags and a flush fit 17 basepad, has a nice trigger, interchangeable back straps, all just like any other striker gun out there.
The Echelon felt much lighter than the XDM-E when fully loaded (I only use extended). You could train with the Echelon for much longer than the XDM-E if arm endurance was an issue. The Echelon also has a smaller profile (at least without optics) than the XDM-E. The Springfield Echelon is similar in size, appearance, and feel to a Glock 17 — except Springfield offers it with the comforts not afforded from the factory by Glock.
