Supposedly if you go into the cars system settings on the dash under RAB you can turn off the Sonar sensors then the RAB will show as off. That is not happening on my 2019. The sensors are off and it's much better but the RAB is not off. When in reverse, on the bottom left corner of the main display showing the backup camera image, is a touch screen button to disable RAB. Page 368 in the manual. I suggest downloading the pdf copy of the manual to make things easier to find. The manual pdfs are available on the My Subaru website under "Support and Resources."
Be sure to clean off all of the sensors and camera lenses. Sometimes when there is a salt layer it messes up the sensors. Just a damp paper towel to each area. Once the RAB is triggered or disabled, it will stay disabled on the screen. If the system was triggered normally (brakes kicked in) then when you put it in drive, the system should reset. If is disabled in drive, it means the RAB has malfunctioned. Turning the ignition off/on will clear that and it should work then.

The other issue is on occasion when we put the Forester in reverse, the light on the info screen for the rear braking doesn't come on, and the dash actually says "RAB Disabled". It doesn't go away until the car is driven for a bit or turned off. Putting it back into park the into reverse again, etc doesn't fix it. However, when you turn the darn thing off from the reverse screen (which is what would happen if you forgot, and the car slammed on the brakes), it stays OFF permanently.
Damaged bumper is dented and scratched, Car and Starlink alerting me to issue with RAB. A couple of deep scratches on the body panel that runs from behind rear passenger wheel back behind and under bumper. I'm guessing this is at least $1000 for bumper replacement. Hopefully that addresses sensors.
