With one exception I've found so far. The Dark Moon Greatsword's damage buff doesn't get increased but the beam attacks after you buff it with its skill are actually affected by the shards. If a weapon art gives your weapon an element buff, that doesn't get increased either, so Sacred blade (the initial beam does get boosted) and the like.

DMGS is a great heavy weapon compliment to a dex/int build because it doesn't benefit from extra strength to the same value other large swords do.
