What I can learn from research is that the Python was originally intended to be a 38 special target revolver. The changeover to the magnum was a last minute type of thing. Some say that the King Cobra was Colt's tacit admission that the Python wasn't designed for a steady diet of magnum loads becasue that model will handle the round.

The beautiful Bright Stainless Pythons seemingly, have been mostly sold as collectible guns for high prices.The Python used the E/ I frame with a leaf mainspring while the Boa was the less costly and easier to make coil mainspring design . All in all a good idea and one that Colt should hve repeated .
