So "7V" would simply indicate an Auto-5 Magnum manufactured in 1967. As far as the rest of the serial number, it's just in consequential order of manufacture.

Starting in 1968 the numbers went to 2 digits (68V) because they had used 8v already for the first year of production in 1958. So, your 69V is a 1969 gun. The reason being, Browning’s repeater was first built by Fabroque Nationale (FN) in Belgium. Then the manufacturing of the Auto-5 was taken over by the Japanese gunmaker Miroku, which continues to make Browning’s Citori. Most hunters will tell you that the Belgian-made Auto-5 was the superior gun.

I have a Browning A-5 round knob, with Made in Belgium on the barrel. It has the barrel address of Browning Arms Co. St. Louis, Mo. It clearly has the PV stamp on it, has the FN butt plate.

I need some serial number help too. I recently inherited my Grandfather's Browning Auto-5 Magnum. The serial number on the bottom of the receiver just forward of the loading port reads OV 302XX. This does not match anything I can find on the Browning gun history chart. Any help in determining the date of manufacture would be greatly appreciated.
