I think there are a few things going on here. Some women really have had surprise $4000 bills from NIPT testing. Some women get insurance coverage due to risk factors-age, prior loss, prior history of chromosomal abnormality, family history etc. my understanding is your OB will submit it either way but your insurance might decline it and say it isn't medically necessary.

NIPT/panorama tells you about the trisomies (including Down Syndrome), sex chromosomal issues (like Turners), sex of the baby (if you want) and microdeletions (if your provider selects that options).
