My jeep's a 2012 patriot sport, 2.0L When the key is turned to the on position, several clicks can be heard that sound like the starter briefly engaging. This is a new sound, best described as five rapid clicks. Then the red lightning bolt light and check engine light start blinking on the dash.

If you can, put it up on a lift and run it. The driveshaft always turns but you should be able connect and disconnect power to rear wheels using the 4x4 switch.
