That won't get you through, but you can find additional sledgehammers and keep at it and get through eventually. Picks or axes can be repaired, so last longer before ruined. Yeah it's true. It doesn't change so you cannot open it though. If you set the code to 1 1 1 and place it on a gate it will change to a random code like 5 3 6 or whatever, thus locking the gate.
