4 days ago · So I picked up a new CVA Scout in .444 Marlin. First thing I did was remove the brake and put a Schmidt Bender 1.5-6x42 scope on it. Local gun store only had the Leverrevolution Ammo in stock. After a couple shots to get it dialed in I shot a 3 shot group and was very surprised. I didn’t actually measure it but it’s well under 1 moa.

I had a stainless cva scout in 45-70 years ago. It had a great trigger and would group 1 1/2” at 100 with federal 300 gn factory ammo . They break down just like a shot gun. So probably really good as a pack rifle. I only got rid of mine cause I want more than one shot. The wildcat cartridge is best described as a .35 caliber bullet on a .30-06 casing, creating a 250-yard rifle with extreme hitting power. The .45-70 is another excellent option, but to cover various ranges, the Whelen was an obvious choice. A short, lightweight rifle may intimidate some shooters worried about recoil.

CVA has one called the Dead On 1 piece, there's no bases to use with these types of scope mounts, it's all one piece and eliminates the stacking things on top of things. I had the handi 35 whelen and sent it back to the factory twice b/c of misfires so I sold it. The Scout, like CVA’s muzzleloading rifles, is made in Spain. By virtue of its shorter break-action, the rifle gives the impression of being carbine-length while still boasting a 22-inch barrel. Overall length is 38 inches. The rifle weighs in at 5.8 pounds with the scope adding another pound, and it feels solid for its size.The word Scout is also etched in each side of the receiver. The caliber designation and CVA Scout logo are lazer etched into the barrel in a black color writing. The 22" barrel has 9 inches of fluting begining near the end of the forend and extend down toward the muzzle of barrel ending about 2 1/2" from the muzzle.This 35 Whelen bears investigating. The 35 Whelen falls nicely between the 375 H&H Magnum and the 30-06, it’s parent cartridge.
