It’s pretty obvious why the feed ramp needs to be a smooth, polished surface. The nose of the bullet must slide over and through this concave surface to enter the chamber. If the surface is too rough or is nicked or burred, the bullet can get stuck. However, it’s less apparent why the bolt face needs to be smooth.

Rotated the take down lever until it stopped. Pulled the slide rearward to drop slide stop and allowed it to move slowly forward. It was seeming to pinch the nose of the Geco bullets which were more blunt than my other 115gr FMJ rounds.
