As far as how long the guild leader logs in is a factor of real life. I have 3 guilds, one I created, 2 I inherited. Note that you will only be able to do this with the actual Guild Master character. Also, make sure you log your GM character in at least once every 30 days, or the leadership will automagically pass to someone else in the guild.
