You don't have to start the car for the horn to beep.If you walk away too quickly, it will beep multiple times, letting you know the auto walk away lock will not lock. Try hesitating within two feet (or so) of the door, just long enough to hear the first single beep. The hatch has to be closed before you walk away if you want the car to lock.
