Thats pretty much the point. Fire is very strong against enemies that are weak to it. Also, once you get the proper whetblade you gain access to the flame art affinity which scales off faith. Flame Grant me Strength, Fire Scorpion Charm, & Flame-Shrouding Cracked Tear are now options to increase your damage.

It's poise damage was cut from 40 to 10, so it is considerably worse at stance breaking as of 1.08.
